From Couch Potato to Weekend Table Hopper: How Meet5 Helped Us Break the Routine
“What are we not doing this weekend?” That used to be the running joke between Sara and me. We’ve been together for years, and over time, our plans became more talk than action. Every Friday, we’d say, “Let’s do something!,” go out to eat, meet friends, take a hike. But too often, those plans fell through. Friends cancelled. The weather turned gloomy. We defaulted to the same Italian restaurant around the corner. Again. 😕
Time for a Change
One weekend, after another plan fell apart, I decided to try something different. I googled “how to meet new people nearby” and came across Meet5. Since everything else in our lives had gone digital, I figured, why not meeting people, too? 😃
I showed Sara the app, signed up, and we started scrolling together:
Who’s active nearby?
What kind of events are happening?
Could we find something we’d both enjoy?
We didn’t want anything wild, just more energy in our weekends and new faces to talk to.
Our First Activity
We signed up for a Meet5 weekly. Just two spots left, perfect! Cue the outfit planning, the “Should we sit next to each other?” debate, and a bit of nervous excitement. The idea was to meet others, not just talk to each other, after all. 🍻
The group was on time, only one person cancelled, and the vibe was friendly from the start. We chose seats that split us up a bit, which turned out to be a great move. It gave us space to chat with others and ease into the flow.
What started as small talk turned into real conversations. We barely noticed the food. One moment I’ll never forget: half the table got into a passionate discussion about Princess Di, and Sara boldly confessed she’d had a thing for Prince William since forever. I can't remember the last time I learned a new fact about my partner of seven years! We laughed the whole way home.
Back to the App and Back to Life
That night, we opened the app again and started mapping out our social calendar.
Some activities together
Some on our own
All designed to bring a little variety back into our lives
Now, I’ve found an amazing hiking group (so popular it fills up fast), and I even upgraded to
Premium so I don’t miss out. Meanwhile, Sara recently admitted she only went hiking for my sake, and always secretly hoped for rain. These days, she’s off discovering her own favorite events, and we both come home with new stories to share.
And yes, the sun shines a little more often for us now ☀️
Thanks, Meet5, for helping us break the routine and find connection again—together and on our own terms.
