Captain Maria (left) at her recent Dueling Pianos Brunch activity

We sat down with Maria, one of our captains in Maryland, to ask her all about what's it's like being a Captain with Meet5. Maria has been a Captain since day 1 - she was our second captain to join in the US! She has a lot of fun stories, group photos, and encouraging tips for new members. So without further ado, here's Maria! Q: What was your first activity as a Captain like - were you nervous?

Maria: My first activity was a happy hour, so no, I was not nervous at all. :)

Photos from Maria's very first activity!

Tip: a happy hour is a great way to dive in to the Meet5 community.

Q: What's your favorite Meet5 memory?

Maria: I've had some great memories with Meet5 activities. They've all been really good. So far I think the funniest and the most memorable is the Dueling Pianos last weekend. Ask me again in a few weeks, I'm already really looking forward to "Drunk Shakespeare." There's a great group of people signed up. I think it's mainly the people who make an event fun.

Q: What would you say to someone who's nervous to go to their first activity?

Maria: I have one person that's signed up for my event this weekend who's very nervous and she was worried she'd chicken out. I told her to please come - that we all have to grow through this at least once. We've all already been in her shoes. Let's see if she'll show up on Sunday.

Tip: If you're nervous, we've all been there! There's friendly folks like Maria waiting for you at your first activity - and they're really looking forward to meeting you!

Q: What are your tips for moving the conversation from surface level things like the weather to more fun and deeper conversation?

Maria: My opinion is, if you see people over and over at different events, the conversation will be moved to more deeper conversation than the surface. That takes time, and I don't like to force it.

Q: What's the best food or drink you've had so far at an activity?

Maria: All the food that we've had so far has been good, but one place stood out as the worst so far. All of us were laughing at how salty it was. Very salty😁

Q: As one of our first captains, what is the one thing that makes you want to keep clicking 'Create Activity' month after month?

Maria: It makes me happy to see people come out and enjoy themselves and not sitting on the couch. Interested in becoming a Captain? Tap the button below to learn more and apply!
