First-Time Nerves? You’re Not Alone. Anna & George Share Their Story

Joining your first Meet5 activity can feel a little intimidating. “Will I fit in?” “What if it’s awkward?” “Am I even welcome?" These are some of the thoughts we hear from new users all the time.
To show you that you’re not alone, and that great things can come from giving it a try. We asked two of our members to tell us about their very first Meet5 experiences.
Meet Anna and George, a couple who actually met through Meet5 (yup, that sometimes happens 😊).
How did your first meetings come about?
Anna: My parents actually spotted an article about Meet5 in the local paper and sent it my way. I read it, downloaded the app, and pretty much signed up for my first activity right away.
George: Some friends recommended the app to me. I got curious, signed up, and quickly found a get-together that looked fun.
What were you thinking before your first activity?
Anna: Honestly, I was a mix of nervous and excitement. When I got to the location, I even thought about turning around and leaving 🙃
George: I was mostly curious. Just eager to see who would show up and what it would be like to meet people in this kind of setting.
How did the first meeting feel once it started?
Anna: There were quite a few people at my first activity. Luckily, I clicked right away with the person sitting next to me. We had a great conversation and that helped me relax. The whole vibe was really friendly and easy.
George: Same here! the atmosphere was relaxed and open from the start. People were just happy to be there, which made it easy to jump into conversation. Any nerves I had disappeared pretty quickly.
What advice would you give to someone going to their first Meet5 activity?
Anna: Be open and curious. Ask questions, listen, and really take an interest in the people around you. Everyone there is hoping to meet new people, that’s already something you all have in common, and it makes it easy to connect.
George: Try not to overthink it. Just show up, be yourself, and enjoy it.
A Few Extra Tips from Us 👇
Start with a weekly or monthly: These are a great first step. Many of them have mentors or Community Captains who will welcome you and answer any questions.
Use the filters in the app: At the top of the activities page, you can filter by city, type of activity, and even preferred vibe to find one that suits you best.
We hope Anna and George’s story gave you a little encouragement. The first step is always the hardest, but once you take it, things get easier and more fun from there.
Who knows? You might just walk away with new friends… or even a future partner. Why not see for yourself? 😄
